These days breathable, wicking fabrics are not the sole domain of outdoor enthusiasts. Gore-Tex® and similar fabrics have revolutionised the clothing industry in providing their wearers with comfortable clothing that is also functional. Nevertheless, researchers at the Institute of Geosciences at the University of Tübingen and the ITV Denkendorf (Institute of Textile Technology and Process Engineering) have been striving for more. In a joint bionics project, they have been developing textiles that automatically adapt wicking ability to the climate surrounding the wearer.
